Will a New State be Viable?

Sometimes people say, “Chicago is the economic engine of the state. Without Chicago, you’ll be impoverished and driving on dirt roads.”

The information posted below will examine this question and explore the financial and economic outlook for a new state. Separate from Old Illinois – including Chicago and urban Cook County – can the new state survive and thrive?

We believe the answer is YES! A state comprising the 101 counties outside of Cook will have a population (7.6 million) and GDP exceeding that of Indiana. As a separate state, New Illinois will have the freedom to address structural problems that Old Illinois has been unwilling to confront. A separate state can create a lower tax, lower regulatory, more financially responsible environment.
