New Illinois: Seventh Constitutional Convention

The Seventh Constitutional Convention for New Illinois will be held at the Chateau Hotel and Conference Center, 1621 Jumer Drive, Bloomington, Illinois.

Registration is from 3:00 – 5:00. An optional prayer gathering will be held from 5:00-5:30.

Social hour will be from 5:45 – 6:30. A VIP reception will also be held from 5:45 – 6:30.

Friday evening dinner will be followed by a keynote address from Sheila Weinberg, founder and CEO of Truth in Accounting. The mission of Truth in Accounting is to compel governments to produce financial reports that are understandable, reliable, transparent and correct. Ms. Weinberg has served as an independent legislative adviser to members of Congress on federal budgeting and accounting issues.

Saturday morning will feature a presentation by Russ Clark, Treasurer of the Illinois Libertarian Party. An engineer and project manager, Russ was originally from Montana and now lives in Springfield. He will be speaking about ballot access, or lack thereof, in the State of Illinois.

Saturday morning’s main speaker will be Illinois State Rep. Brad Halbrook (107th District, Shelbyville). Brad is a small business owner and farmer and has served in the Illinois General Assembly from April 2012 – January 2015 and January 2017 to the present. He is the chief sponsor of HJR0016, the resolution for New Illinois – 51st State.

After each speaker, there will be an opportunity for questions and answers.

Next, a joint session of the New Illinois State Legislature will include the following:

  • Marty Kelly, Chairman of the Finance Committee, will provide information on the financial feasibility of a new state.
  • Andy Williams, Chairman of the Law Research and Review Committee, will report on that group’s progress.
  • Dan Juffernbruch, Chairman of the Constitution Committee and New Illinois Senate Vice Chairman, will report on the progress on the second draft of the New Illinois State Constitution. Dan’s report will be followed by a short time for questions and discussion.

Lunch will follow. Saturday afternoon there will be a working session for the New Illinois State Senate and Assembly. Concurrently, Larry Mulch, New Illinois State Vice Chairman and Hancock County Committee Chairman, will host a discussion and answer questions about New Illinois.
